How race affects ones Identity

Issues of racial and ethnic identification have been a great controversy through out our history. Whether  it was back in times of slavery or today on streets filled with riots, racial identity has always been a topic to talk about.

Race is generally seen as what culture or ethnicity you are. However certain races have been treated poorly throughout our history. African  Americans, Hispanics, and Muslims are just a few ethnicities that have been treated poorly threw out Americas history. I believe that some of what has been done in the past has been carried over to the present. Certain races of people are being treated badly over things they cant control. An example of this would we 911. Because Muslim terrorist were responsible for what happened, most people view all Muslims as horrible people. When in reality they're not.

Another group of people that has come up a lot lately are Hispanics. with Trump wanting to build a wall there has been a lot of debating between people. I for one, don't think that there should even be a wall built because most people who cross the borders to get here have a very good reason for doing so. I don't think anyone who is coming to the U.S to better their families lives or escape from danger should be stopped, and that goes for all religions, races, and cultures.

Everyone is born into a race. I don't think its fair to judge people solely on past history of a group. The more we judge people the more likely they will believe what is being said about them and that's what causes people to do and be what everyone else pegs them for.

  1. I absolutely agree! It's so sad growing up; I remember being in elementary & middle school and learning about civil rights, slave history, terrorist attacks around the world, etc. I remember thinking that we had overcome that completely, only to become older and realize that we are still living in a time of civil unrest, racism and injustice. Bottom line is that everyone deserves to be treated fairly and that we are all human.. Open-mindedness and compassion instead of being quick to judge and assume.

  2. I agree with what you're saying and that it's not fair how people treat other races considering it's not something anyone can control. It actually amazes me that historically, we just recently stopped being racist towards African Americans. To me and a lot of other people, such harsh racism seems so long ago, but it was less than 100 years!

  3. I couldn't agree more I do not see why people can not let the past be the past. Everyone does this, they dwell in the past instead of coming together for a better future. America needs to reunite with every race, not only for our selves but for our children as well.

  4. I definitely agree that race is a big controversy in our world and something that has no business even being a problem anymore. However, I do believe that there is an extent to how certain events, such as 9/11, should be treated. Because of how tragic the event was, I do believe that certain security is needed between our country and others that have in the past caused us harm. We should always try to protect ourselves from potential harm. That being said, I don't think that people shouldn't be allowed in America at all, I just feel that strict security is definitely needed to ensure the safety of America first and foremost. The racial comments and innuendos are definitely not needed though. And for the wall, I think Trump's intentions are good (trying to make America safe before allowing anyone else here), but there have definitely been controversies and misconceptions about the whole thing. Your overall point is very good, that racial controversies are still alive and shouldn't be, I just believe that to some extent it can be necessary (not the racial slurs or comments though).

  5. I agree race has always been an issue throughout history, great example you used was 9/11 and the aftermath of people not liking Muslims because the terrorist attacker were Muslims. In order for our society to prosper and flourish we need to change the way we think and perceive others, our race is the human race it doesn't matter about the color of our skin but the kindness of our heart. Good Blog A+

  6. i agree, why can't people just get on with their normal lifes and mind their business. i know racism has been quite an issue, especially towards African Americans, i feel like everybody should be treated equally, just because somebody has a different color of skin or a different race, they shouldn't be treated poorly. great blog by the way.

  7. I agree, that race is a big problem and has been a big problem.I think one of the problems is stereotypes, people watch or hear some of these stereotypes and they assume it true. I don't think racism will ever go away but we should try to reduce it.

  8. I agree with you! It is terrible how some people are treated just by color. I've grown up with African American family members and have seen personally how they were treated and it disgust me. I personally was raised with family with lots of diversity so I see no difference between people and their ethnicity. I do think some people are raised to believe that their are differences in ethnicities. But no matter what it is sad and should stop because their is no difference, a human is a human.

  9. I agree that people shouldn't be treated poorly do to the history of their race. Racism will never go away because there will always be people who are raised to see the differences in peoples race. We are all the same the only difference is how we look. People shouldn't treat people different because of their race but for their actions.
