Split

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have one body but several different people living in it? Around the U.S there are multiple cases of DID or Dissociative Identity Disorder each year. DID is a condition where one person has many different personalities. In some of these situations a forty year old woman could thing she was a twelve year old boy and a eighty year old woman. DID is one of the most controversial psychiatric disorders, with no clear consensus on diagnostic criteria or treatment. The only country that recognizes DID as being a real thing is the U.S.

I feel like it would be insane to be diagnosed with DID simply because you would know who you really are. In several cases people are reported not even knowing they became another personality. In a documentary on a young woman names Gretchen, there were several times where her other personality would take over and try to kill her. Gretchen would wake up to having mutilated cuts on her arm and not remember anything about it or how it happened. Going in and out of personalities like that would be horrifying. especially if you didn't know what your other personality was doing.

  1. I think this is one of the coolest things I've learned this year I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of DID but I have felt that I had it while trying to find out who I really was so please be careful about it. My grandma has Dementia and when first hearing about DID I thought she had it because one day she would remember me entirely and the next try to physically hurt me cause she thought I was breaking in to her house, she was two completely different people on given day. I'm going to be looking at this a little deeper when I get to college as well that's for sure.

  2. I agree that'd be really scary. I was looking more into it and the average amount of different personalities someone could have is between 8 and 13. That's about twice my family and the thought of that many different people in my head would give me so much anxiety.

  5. That's crazy! I couldn't imagine not knowing when i am acting like someone else when im with other people. It would be even worse to be in a situation where your other personalities are trying to kill you. I hope they can do more research on it and try to find ways to help people handle it

  6. It's wild that this is a real disorder, especially if you've seen the new movie "Split". I think that portrayed your topic pretty well considering he was completely different people in every personality, withy different strengthys, IQ's, accents, etc.
